Program Notes: Kyrie for Peace in Our Time was written in the same thematic vein (calling for peace in the world) as a few other recent works of mine (composed in 2013) including Hear My Voice, Ver Novum, and The Great Voices. Each of these mentioned compositions approach the call to peace in different ways—the present one relies not on human cooperation and efforts (as in the respective appeals in Hear My Voice and Ver Novum) but on the role of divine intervention. In doing so this work toes the line between liturgical music (given the text and the use of organ and choir) and concert music (given its length and its level of difficulty to perform).
